About me
Neville Reid is an attorney and a capital partner who co-chairs the Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Creditors’ Rights Group at the law firm of Fox, Swibel, Levin & Carroll LLP in Chicago. Prior to Fox Swibel, Neville was a partner in the bankruptcy group of Mayer Brown LLP, where he practiced law for 22 years. His principal expertise is advising companies, lenders, receivers, trustees, investors and other clients on a wide array of insolvency-related issues, including restructuring corporations and their relationships with creditors, advising lenders on restructuring loans with distressed borrowers, and structuring acquisitions of distressed assets for investors. Neville has 35 years of experience in this area, including 31 years as a bankruptcy trustee who is frequently appointed by bankruptcy judges to investigate fraudulent transactions and liquidate assets in bankruptcy cases for the benefit of creditors. Neville is also currently serving as a receiver appointed by the SEC to recover assets for defrauded investors in a Ponzi scheme case currently pending in Chicago.
Neville served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees for 8 years, and was its President in 2020-2021. While on the Board of NABT, he testified to Congress in 2019 on a bankruptcy law reform bill related to trustee compensation. In 2017, Neville received the Illinois Harvard Law Society’s Role Model Award. Neville has been rated AV Preeminent through the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating system, and since 2012 has been named to the list of Illinois Super Lawyers. In 2022, Neville was inducted as a Fellow in the prestigious American College of Bankruptcy, based on his professional accomplishments in the insolvency profession, ethics and civic engagement. Also in 2022, Neville received the Best Lawyers in America designation, a recognition of high achievement and excellence by his peers in the legal profession. In 2023, Neville was designated a leading restructuring attorney in Illinois by Chambers USA, the most selective ranking organization of lawyers in the U.S.
Neville received his B.A. from Harvard College, magna cum laude, in 1984, and his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1987.
Outside of his profession, Neville has been active in multiple ministries and community service for many years. He has been an active volunteer in the Kairos Prison Ministry for 14 years, and has been Chair of the Stateville Kairos Prison Ministry Advisory Council for 5 years. He has led Bible Studies for youth and adults for over 27 years at various churches in the Chicago area. Neville was also the Chair of the Illinois Medical District, as a Governor-appointee, from 2018-2020, overseeing economic development in a 600-acre medical district on Chicago’s near West Side, and has served on the Board of Chicago Habitat for Humanity for 6 years.
Neville and his wife Reverend Adonna Reid have five adult children whom they raised in Chicago’s Beverly community, and one grandchild. Neville and Adonna currently reside in the parsonage at First United Methodist Church of Oak Park, where Adonna is the Pastor.
